In 1982 a Canadian man embezzled over $10 million dollars from his employer, The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Adapted from "Stung," the best-selling account of this true story, director Richard Kwietnioski unravels the fascinating tale of polite, mild mannered Dan Mahowny (Philip Seymour Hoffman, in a Genie Award-nominated performance), an assistant bank manager with a head for numbers, a knack for making decisions, and a devastating appetite for gambling. The film also stars Minnie Driver, John Hurt, Maury Chaykin, and Sonja Smits. Owning Mahowny was nominated for four Genie Awards (2004), including Best Motion Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.
